Schools in Penang's southwest sub-district 12 closed from Nov 6

PETALING JAYA: A total of 56 schools in sub-district 12 of southwest Penang, which has been declared a red zone, will be closed from Nov 6 to Nov 20.

The Education Ministry said the 56 schools included government primary and secondary schools, vocational colleges, boarding schools, as well as private schools registered with the government.

"Parents with children staying in hostels are advised to bring them home.

"However, those who are waiting for their parents to fetch them or who opt to stay at the hostels while schools are closed will be put under the care of the hostel warden.

"The schools and institutions will provide food and drink throughout that period," the ministry said in a statement.

Students who are scheduled to sit for international examinations during that period are required to get a letter from their schools prior to taking the exams.

Online learning will be conducted throughout that period and teaching and learning manuals can be downloaded from www.moe.gov.my.

The ministry will continue bringing updates on school closures and is monitoring the situation by working together with the National Security Council and the Health Ministry.

On Wednesday (Nov 4), Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob also announced that conditional movement control order (MCO) will be enforced on sub-district 12 in southwest Penang from Nov 6 to Nov 19.

Sub-district 12 encompasses Bayan Baru, Sungai Ara, Batu Maung, Desa Ria, Free Trade Zone 3 and Free Trade Zone 4.
