PETALING JAYA: Parti Pejuang Tanah Air MPs will not withhold their support for Budget 2021 if everything is in order, says Pejuang pro-tem president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
He said red flags would only be raised if any “abnormalities” were spotted.
“The Budget 2021 which will be presented in Parliament on Friday (Nov 6) must be taken seriously.
"We will look for abnormalities like extraordinary allocations for some suspicious-looking project.
“However, we will not withhold the passing of Budget 2021 if everything is in order, ” said the Jerlun MP and former Kedah mentri besar.
The yet-to-be-registered Pejuang currently has four MPs including Mukhriz, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Kubang Pasu MP Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah and Sri Gading MP Datuk Shahruddin Salleh.
Mukhriz was replying to a question on whether Pejuang would support Budget 2021 amidst worries the ruling Perikatan Nasional government might not have enough votes to pass it. A budget defeat would also be taken as a vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
On Oct 28, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had urged all MPs to close ranks and support Budget 2021 regardless of their party affiliation.
On Nov 1, Pejuang stated that it would not be giving its support to the Budget 2021 blindly.
It said that the contents of Budget 2021 would be reviewed first before a decision to support it was made.
“We feel that to support it without examining its contents first is irresponsible, ” the party said.
