PETALING JAYA: The Petaling district officer says 105 positive Covid-19 cases have been detected from the Utama cluster.
Of the total, those who tested positive comprised 79 security personnel, eight mall outlet workers and 18 cleaners, said Petaling disaster management committee chairman Johary Anuar in a text message to The Star on Thursday (Oct 15) morning.
However, the 1 Utama Shopping Centre management, in a statement on Thursday (Oct 15), denied that the all the Covid-19 cases were from the mall as stated in an earlier statement from the Petaling disaster management committee.
The mall said it was misleading to imply that all cases stated in the report originated from 1 Utama as there was no index case identified as coming from the mall.
Johary in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 14) said: "Based on the situation, the Petaling District Health Department and the Petaling District Disaster Management Committee decided that screening must continue for all staff from the mall.
"Those detected positive will be treated at the hospital and those with close contact with those who tested positive must quarantine themselves for 14 days, followed by another round of screening before they can be cleared," he added.
Johary also said a new batch of security personnel must be hired.
"Those to be hired must not have had close contact with those with Covid-19. They must be screened and free from Covid-19 before starting work," he said.
The mall has been closed to the public since Oct 11.
Meanwhile, the Bah Tropicana cluster recorded 18 new Covid-19 positive cases for a total of 25 cases on Wednesday.
Sixteen of the cases were those living in the Asrama Tropicana staff dormitory while the rest were outsiders.
Some 350 dormitory staff have undergone Covid-19 screening.
