Schools in Covid-19 red zones told to shut

PETALING JAYA: All schools in Covid-19 red zones have been ordered to close beginning today until Oct 23.

The Education Ministry said the order involved 142 schools in Klang and 242 schools in Sandakan, Papar and Tuaran in Sabah.

“The schools encompass all primary and secondary schools under the ministry as well as private schools registered with the ministry.

“Students and teachers will resume home-based learning during this time,” it said in a statement.

The ministry added that during the period, principals and headmasters would ensure teachers and students carry out the teaching and learning process at home depending on the suitability of the teachers and students.

“As for schools which are conducting the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia trial examinations during the period, they can reschedule it to a later date.

“Boarding schools, including vocational colleges, will also be closed and parents or guardians should bring their children home.

“However, students who are waiting to be picked up by their parents or students who wish to remain in the school dormitory and vocational college during this period will be under the care of the hostel warden,” said the ministry, adding that food would be provided by the schools.
