Support for Anwar requires honest desire to 'save' country from health, economic crises, say PKR MPs

PETALING JAYA: The support for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister candidate should come from an honest desire to "save" the country from the Covid-19 health and economic crisis, say PKR MPs.

Besides having a stable, dynamic, and strong government, the MPs said that commitment to the supremacy of the Federal Constitution, the rule of law, and the preservation of the integrity of the new government would not be compromised at all.

"The government must focus on strengthening governance and implementing institutional reforms, including the judiciary," said PKR chief whip Datuk Johari Abdul on behalf of the PKR MPs in a statement on Sunday (Sept 27).

He said that the PKR MPs had on Sunday held a discussion on the current position of the Federal Government following Anwar's announcement last week that he held the majority support in Parliament.

Johari said they fully supported the measures taken to restore the people's mandate given during the May 9,2018 elections by focusing on driving economic growth and reducing the gap between the poor and the rich.

They also prayed for the good health of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who has underwent treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN).

On Wednesday (Sept 23), Anwar claimed at a press conference to have secured a strong majority to form a new government, and that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's government had collapsed.

However, he stopped short of revealing the numbers he had, adding he would first seek an audience with Sultan Abdullah.
