PUTRAJAYA: From now on, foreigners entering Malaysia have to pay the full RM4,700 charge for their mandatory nine-day Covid-19 quarantine, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic).

The Senior Minister said the government would continue subsidising the quarantine costs for Malaysian citizens only.

“Starting from Sept 24 (yesterday), all non-Malaysians entering the country from its international entry points will have to pay the full charges, ” he said in his daily update on Covid-19 recovery movement control order compliance in the country.

Ismail Sabri said Malaysians would only have to pay RM2,100 for their accommodation while the operational costs of RM2,600 will be borne by the government.

“For foreigners, they will have to pay the full charge of RM4,700 without any subsidy.

“For second and third persons who are sharing a room, each of them will have to fork out RM700 per person, ” he said.

Ismail Sabri said children aged below six would be exempted from the fee.

Since July 24, all individuals arriving into Malaysia must undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine at hotels or institutes.

Up to Sept 23, a total of 33,354 people have arrived at the country’s international entry points and placed under quarantine.

The senior minister said currently, 8,005 people were undergoing the quarantine order while 103 have been sent to hospitals for treatment.

A total of 25,426 have been discharged and allowed to return home.
