PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s claim that he has the numbers to form the next government is akin to sabotaging the country, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).
He said Anwar’s claim had spooked investor confidence when the country needed to do all it could to revive the economy amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index shed 10.5 points right after he (Anwar) made his ‘big claim’ that he has the majority to form the government.
“(He) is back to his old tricks. Remember when he tried to pull the same con job back on Sept 16,2008, when he promised he had 30 MPs to cross over to form the government?
“Absolutely nothing but air came from that episode, ” he said on Facebook yesterday.
Dr Wee said that during the press conference, Anwar was still evasive and vague when pressed on the numbers he believes he has.
“Our stance is clear. MCA and Barisan Nasional fully stand by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
“Under his able leadership, Perikatan Nasional as a functional government has won global praise in containing Covid-19 in the past six months, as well as keeping the country’s economy on an even keel despite much hardship due to the pandemic, ” he said.
Dr Wee also said Anwar should be more responsible as a senior politician, especially with the Sabah elections taking place.
“The stability of the country is much more important than his obsession with being prime minister, ” he added.
