Covid-19: New cluster detected in Kedah involving two healthcare workers, says Health DG

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has detected a new cluster in Kedah, dubbed the “Sungai cluster”, which has two confirmed cases so far.

The two cases under the cluster are two female healthcare workers who work in a private medical centre.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the index case is a 39-year-old who experienced symptoms from Aug 30, but she had not sought treatment for it.

“A Covid-19 test was conducted on Sept 5 and the case was confirmed as positive, ” said Dr Noor Hisham in a statement Monday (Sept 7).

The second case is aged 36 and is a close contact of the index case.

She tested positive for Covid-19 on Sept 5 and also developed symptoms.

“Both cases have been admitted to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, Alor Setar and are being treated and isolated, ” said Dr Noor Hisham.

So far, the ministry has initiated active case detection and screening of close contacts.

Some 55 related individuals have been screened and they are still waiting for their results.
