KOTA BARU (Bernama): Kelantan police apprehended a man and seized cash and jewellery worth more than RM100,000 less than seven hours after a report was lodged by the victim.
Kota Baru OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahim Daud said the 25-year-old suspect was arrested by CID personnel at Lembah Sireh bus station at 8pm Sunday (Aug 23), following a report made by a 51-year-old teacher.
He said on Saturday (Aug 22), the victim and her husband went to Kuala Krai to attend a feast and returned home at 9.15pm.
"However, at about 5.15am Sunday, the victim found her jewellery box which was placed in a cupboard had been moved to another place, and jewellery and cash in various currencies that were kept in the box were missing, ” he said in a statement here Monday (Aug 24).
Abdul Rahim said investigations found that there was no sign of housebreaking but they found seven fingerprints belonging to the suspect on the scene instead.
"The suspect is a local man and his last address is in Gombak, Kuala Lumpur. He also has five criminal records. We believe he was trying to escape to Kuala Lumpur, ” he said.
The suspect was remanded for four days and the case is investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft. - Bernama
