Bersatu looking at creating new chapters to allow associate members to hold positions

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia is looking at forming new chapters so that associate members are able to hold positions in the party.

Party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that a committee headed by Tan Sri Rais Yatim has been formed to look into the suggestion.

"It will be brought to the supreme council and if it is accepted, we will conduct an extraordinary general meeting to amend the Bersatu constitution," he said during the Kongres Negara Bersatu Untuk Malaysia gathering on Saturday (Aug 22).

Muhyiddin said that he had suggested the idea during a recent Bersatu supreme council meeting.

He said there were big challenges ahead, but did not want to speak further on this.

Presently, the party allows non-Malays to join the party as associate members but they are not allowed to hold leadership positions.
