Malaysia Prihatin unveiled as the theme as PM launches Merdeka celebrations

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has launched the Merdeka celebrations, and this year's chosen theme is Malaysia Prihatin, which emphasises the spirit of patriotism, unity and love for the country.

The launch, held at Dataran Perdana at Perdana Putra building on Tuesday (July 28), saw the full attendance of Cabinet ministers.

In his speech, Muhyiddin said he was pleased to see that the Malaysia Prihatin spirit was embraced by all Malaysians.

"This can be seen when the people extend help and support in times of need, regardless of race, religion or political belief.

"This is a positive sign that proves that the people are together during good and difficult times," he said.

Muhyiddin said each and every Malaysian must have a deep sense of love for the country, which he believed would help to engender unity and togetherness.

"The Jalur Gemilang is the symbol of sovereignty and independence of our nation, and not a mere piece of cloth that defines our constitution," he said.

At the event, the Merdeka Day celebration's theme song, Malaysia Prihatin, was played for the first time.

The song was composed by Datuk Mokhzani Ismail, with the lyrics written by El Sol Akhmad.
