Covid-19: 21 new cases, death toll remains at 123 (updated)

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia reported 21 new Covid-19 cases on Monday (July 20), bringing the total number of infections in the country to 8,800.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said the six imported cases involved four Malaysians and two non-citizens.

The imported cases were of those returning from the Philippines with three cases and one case each from India, Russia, and Denmark, said Dr Noor Hisham.

Of the 15 locally transmitted cases, 13 involved Malaysians and two involved non-Malaysians, he added.

Of the 13 locally transmitted cases involving Malaysians, 12 were from a new cluster, called the Kluang Old Folks Home cluster, while one was detected during a pre-operation screening in Negri Sembilan, he said.

Of the two locally transmitted cases involving non-Malaysians, one was detected during a pre-operation screening and another came from the Kluang Old Folks Home cluster, he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said that two patients have recovered and been discharged, taking the total cumulative discharged cases to 8,555.

Three are being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU) with one of them on ventilator support, he added.

He said no death was recorded, keeping the death toll at 123 cases.

Dr Noor Hisham also said that the new cluster involving the Kluang Old Folks Home in Johor was detected after the 123rd death from Covid-19 on Sunday (July 19).

As of Monday, he said that 39 individuals were screened for Covid-19, with 14 being found positive, 18 negative, and seven still waiting for their test results.
