Auditor-General's report highlights weaknesses in project management

PUTRAJAYA: There are still issues of non-compliance, ineffectiveness and weaknesses in managing programmes and projects, according to the Auditor-General's report findings.

The findings, as stated in the Auditor-General's Report 2018 Series 3, resulted in certain programmes not achieving the targeted outcome and impact, said Auditor-General Datuk Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid (pic).

Under Series 3,12 performance audits valued at RM742.476bil were carried out involving programmes and activities of 10 ministries.

"The National Audit Department has presented 62 recommendations to ministries so that they can carry out remedial measures to rectify weaknesses," he said Tuesday (July 14).

Aside from ministries, the department also carried out performance audits on 17 activities by 22 departments and agencies as well as 13 management audits on state-owned companies.

The Auditor-General had presented 122 recommendations for departments and state agencies as remedial measures.

Nik Azman said the Auditor-General's Report for 2018 has three series due to more auditing being made for the year.

It was initially scheduled to be tabled during the Dewan Rakyat meeting in March but was postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic.
