PUTRAJAYA: Birthday wishes for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who turned 95 yesterday, have been pouring all over social media.
Ordinary people, politicians and even rivals wished the former prime minister happy birthday.
One of the most unlikely well-wishers was Dr Mahathir’s political foe, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who shared a birthday post on Twitter.
“Happy 95th birthday, sir. May Tun Dr Mahathir be blessed with grace, peace, good health and long life,” wrote Najib on this Twitter page, with a picture of Dr Mahathir attached.
PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tweeted a brief birthday shoutout to Dr Mahathir, which included a photo of them.
“Happy 95th birthday to @chedetofficial (Dr Mahathir’s Twitter handle). May you be in good health”, he wrote.
Senior Minister (Economy) Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali meanwhile posted an old photo featuring his younger self with Dr Mahathir.
“Many happy returns of the day, Tun. On your 95th birthday, I wish you continued good health, longevity and happiness. May Allah bless and protect you always,” he wrote.
Former Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman published a photo of him gifting Marvel Comics-themed socks to Dr Mahathir and wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.
Dr Mahathir is seen grinning in the photo as he holds up a pair of Spiderman socks.
“Matching socks for Tun M & Tun Siti. Happy Birthday, Tun. May Allah bless you always,” the Muar MP posted on his Twitter page.
Meanwhile, on Facebook, Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh wrote a heartfelt birthday post for her boss during the Pakatan Harapan administration.
The former deputy women, family and community development minister posted a photo of herself with Dr Mahathir which she said was taken after a heart-to-heart talk between them.
“I may not like everything I heard but I know you were honest in answering those questions. And this is what I like about you. Your honesty even if it means losing votes.
“Because I cannot do what you are doing today at 95, I want to celebrate all that you are at 95. Fatherly. Tenacious. Not perfect but still trying. In all my prayers for you, I thank God for you playing a role in shaping the Bangsa Malaysia I grew up with and still subscribe to.
“Just want you to know despite all the negative comments you’re reading out there, there are still many Malaysians out there wishing you well and want the happiest birthday for you. Happiest 95th Birthday Tun!” Yeoh wrote.
