PETALING JAYA: The first phase of the RM1.029bil integrated flood mitigation project to address flood woes in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas and the banks of Sungai Golok in Kelantan would be completed by April 2022, says Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
The Environment and Water Minister said the first phase involves the construction of bunds along Sungai Golok (26km), Sg Mentua (8km) and Sg Lemal Lanchang (19km), and construction of a floodgate at Kuala Jambu, at a cost of RM300mil.
"Upgrading works at the Sungai Golok estuary involves the construction of a dyke, and shipping route preparation," he said.
He said it was part of a three-phase flood mitigation project that would benefit 45,700 people living in the 225sq km flood-prone zone.
He said this after a site visit on Sunday (July 5).
Also present were executive councillors Datuk Azami Mohd Nor and Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang.
