Over 3,000 illegal immigrants deported, says Ismail Sabri

PUTRAJAYA: Authorities have deported more than 3,000 illegal immigrants and are planning to send more home in the coming days, says Datuk Seri ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Senior Minister said that more than 2,500 undocumented Indonesians caught in Peninsular Malaysia had been deported, while in Sabah, 672 illegal immigrants from the same country were sent home.

“Authorities are currently in the process of deporting another 4,200 illegal immigrants from Indonesia.

“The process of sending back 5,280 illegals from the Philippines will begin on June 30, ” he said on Friday (June 26).

The government is coming down hard on illegal immigrants to curb human trafficking and to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

On Ops Benteng, Ismail Sabri said that six foreign nationals were stopped at road blocks for Immigration offences.

Police set up 68 road blocks on June 25 and inspected 36,896 vehicles to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country.

The minister reported that since May 1,1, 057 illegal immigrants and 188 tekongs (ship captains) had been arrested while attempting to sneak into the country.

Authorities also arrested 63 individuals suspected to be human smugglers and seized 32 boats,

“The government will not tolerate the irresponsible act committed by those who help foreigners to enter the country illegally. They will be dealt with severely if caught, ” he said.
