Covid-19: 16 new cases, death toll remains at 121

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 16 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (June 21), bringing the total number of infections to 8,572.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said out of the 16 new cases, three were imported cases involving two Malaysians and a permanent resident, who were all infected abroad.

Meanwhile, there were 13 locally transmitted cases involving nine foreigners and four Malaysians, he said in a statement on Sunday.

He added that the country saw no new Covid-19 deaths, keeping the death toll at 121, or 1.41% out of the overall number of cases.

Dr Noor Hisham also said 10 patients had recovered on Sunday with a total of 8,156 patients discharged since the Covid-19 outbreak began.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 recovery rate is now at 95.1% out of the total number of positive cases.

There are currently 295 active cases being treated at the country’s health facilities.

At present, three patients are being treated at the intensive care units (ICU) with none of them on ventilator support.
