Dr Noor Hisham pays tribute to his four 'generals' in FB post

PUTRAJAYA: As praise and well-wishes continue to pour in for Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic), he is quick to downplay all the acclaim given to him.

Dr Noor Hisham has been insistent that all the good work of the Health Ministry in battling Covid-19 is not down to him alone.

On his official Facebook account, Dr Noor Hisham paid tribute to his "generals", Datuk Dr Rohaizat Yon (Deputy Director-General, Medical), Datuk Dr Chong Chee Keong (Deputy Director-General, Public Health) and Dr Hishamsham Mohd Ibrahim (Deputy Director-General, Research and Technical Support) as well as Dr Norhayati Rusli, the director of the ministry's disease control division.

His deputies are familiar faces throughout the Covid-19 outbreak, as they are often by his side during the ministry's daily televised press conference.

"In this war against Covid-19, I am always assisted by these generals who are often by my side," wrote Dr Noor Hisham, before naming the four officials.

This is not the first time Dr Noor Hisham played down compliments given to him over the country's management of the Covid-19 pandemic.

When asked to comment on being listed among three of the world's top doctors and public health officials for his approach in handling the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr Noor Hisham said: "I see this as a recognition for the country, not me."

The other two doctors who were listed by China Global TV Network (CGTN) are United States' infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci and New Zealand's director-general of health Ashley Bloomfield.
