PETALING JAYA: Two foreign women were allegedly raped by a police officer at a hotel after they were stopped at a roadblock to enforce the movement control order (MCO).
The suspect – an inspector in his 30s – was arrested based on police intelligence and surveillance.
It is learnt that the Mongolian women were stopped at a roadblock on Friday night during a routine check.
Both were then held against their will at a nearby hotel for more than 24 hours before they were rescued.
OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said police were alerted to the incident on Saturday.
He said his deputy, Supt Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood, was tasked to carry out an investigation due to the sensitive nature of the case.
“Prior to our operations, we needed to conduct surveillance as our priority was to ensure the two women were not in danger, ” he told reporters yesterday.
ACP Nik Ezanee said police carried out two raids at about 9.30pm on Saturday, including one at a hotel here where the two women, aged 20 and 33, were rescued.
“The police inspector was arrested at a separate location, ” he said, adding that police had to seek help from a friend of both women to act as a translator as they could not speak Bahasa Malaysia or English.
“Based on initial investigations, they were working in vice. After the rescue operation, we took them to hospital for a medical check-up, ” he said.
Both women do not have valid documents.
ACP Nik Ezanee said police would apply for an interim protection order for the women.
He said a police forensic team was sent to the hotel to comb for evidence.
“I am deeply saddened and disappointed over this case. The suspect was acting in his own capacity and we will ensure stern action is taken in accordance to the law.”
