Govt exempts RM1 inter-bank ATM fees during MCO period

PUTRAJAYA: The RM1 automated teller machine (ATM) fee for inter-bank transactions will be exempted to encourage the people to use it during the movement control order (MCO) period, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the special Cabinet committee on non-health related matters pertaining to the MCO was told that many people were still queuing up for over-the-counter services at banks to avoid paying the RM1 charge.

“So from Monday (April 6) until the end of the MCO, banks will waive the fee. We hope this will encourage the people to use the ATM instead, ” he said on Friday (April 3).

However, he reminded the public to practice social distancing while lining up at ATMs.

He also urged the people to conduct all their bank transactions online.
