PETALING JAYA: Another 123 Covid-19 cases and two deaths have been reported, bringing it to a total of 1,306 cases and 10 fatalities from the disease as of noon Sunday (March 22), says the Health Ministry.
Health director-general Datuk Seri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said 74 of the 123 new Covid-19 cases were linked to the tabligh cluster, while the remaining 49 cases are still under investigation.
Dr Noor Hisham added there were 46 Covid-19 patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), with 22 needing respiratory aid.
On the two additional deaths, Dr Noor Hisham said the ninth death involved a 48-year-old health ministry staff member who had a history of travel to Turkey and passed away on March 22.
The tenth death was a 74-year-old man from the tabligh cluster and also the 259th Covid-19 patient. He was warded at Hospital Pulau Pinang on March 13 and succumbed to his illness on March 22.
"The Health Ministry wants to express its condolences to all of their family members," said Dr Noor Hisham.
He also said that 460 health ministry staff members have gone through Covid-19 screening as of March 22.
Out of the amount, 270 were found negative while the remaining 190 are still waiting for results.
He also said that the ministry has provided mental health services and psychosocial support for them and their family members who are emotionally affected due to the Covid-19 crisis.
