PETALING JAYA: The government is looking to obtain 10 million face masks from China due to the lack of supplies in the country, says Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
"Currently, we lack the supplies for face masks.
"It was decided at the National Security Council (NSC) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and was attended by all the states Mentri Besar, Chief Ministers and federal ministers on Friday (March 20) that we will try to get 10 million face masks from China," he said on Saturday (March 21).
Fadillah added that the face mask supplies would be coordinated by the Transport Ministry, together with an airline company.
The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) would then be in charge of the supplies.
"They (Nadma) will be in charge of the distribution. The priority for these face masks will be the frontliners," he said.
Fadillah added hat the frontliners would consist of those in the state and the Health Ministry, the police, Immigration Department, as well as those in the army involved in preventing the spread of Covid-19.
He added that if there were extra face masks, then it would be distributed in the market.
"Nadma will work together with Pharmaniaga to distribute the face mask in the market for the public," he said.
