Stunned Melaka MCA chief misses photo op with new CM

MELAKA: Datuk Lim Ban Hong was so stunned to hear about his appointment as Deputy Interna-tional Trade and Industry Ministry that he missed a photo session with the new Melaka Chief Minister.

Lim, who is Melaka MCA chairman, was attending the swearing-in ceremony of Datuk Sulaiman Md Ali on Monday afternoon.

He was chatting with some friends when the Cabinet list was announced on TV.

“At that moment, I was surprised to hear my name on live TV broadcast. I was lost for words.

“I started making calls to find out whether it was really me who was mentioned until I missed the photo session,” he said yesterday.

(Sulaiman had wanted to take picture with state MIC chairman Datuk M.S. Mahadevan and him at the end of ceremony at the Melaka Yang di-Pertua’s office in Ayer Keroh.)

Lim, who is MCA vice-president, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong for placing their trust in him.

“This is a heavy task at this challenging time,” said Lim, 43.

He said he would work with the minister, Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, to focus on ensuring the success of the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 in creating job opportunities, economic growth as well as taking care of the welfare of the rakyat.

“I will give my utmost attention to my new task,” he said.
