Mukhriz: Not all Bersatu MPs support Muhyiddin as 8th PM

PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir quashed claims that all 36 of its MPs support president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the eighth Prime Minister.

In a post on his Facebook and Instagram accounts, he noted that six MPs supported interim Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for the position.

The six MPs are Kubang Pasu MP Amiruddin Hamzah, Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman (Muar), Dr Maszlee Malik (Simpang Renggam), Eddin Syazlee Shith (Kuala Pilah), Mahathir (Langkawi), and himself (Jerlun).

"Bohong utk jadi PM? (Lying to become Prime Minister)" he asked.

The Facebook post, received over 1,600 Likes and was shared more than 700 times.

The post included a press statement stating that all 36 Bersatu MPs have agreed to propose Muhyiddin, who is Pagoh MP, as the eighth premier to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong following a party meeting.

The statement, dated Feb 28, was signed by Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Marzuki Yahaya.

Earlier Saturday (Feb 29), Istana Negara announced that Muhyiddin will be sworn in as the eighth prime minister Sunday (March 1).
