PUTRAJAYA: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has consented to cancel the appointment of the current Cabinet line-up.
Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Zuki Ali said the cancellation of the appointments are done on the advice of the Prime Minister as stated under Article 43(5) of the Federal Constitution.
Zuki said this decision is also in line with the resignation of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Prime Minister.
"In line with this, the duties of members of the administration comprising the Deputy Prime Minister, Ministers, Deputy Ministers as well as political secretaries have ceased effective the same date, which is Feb 24, 2020," he said in a statement on Monday (Feb 24).
Earlier Dr Mahathir, who had announced his resignation was summoned to the Istana Negara.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong accepted Dr Mahathir's resignation and has consented for him to continue running the country as interim Prime Minister while waiting for a new premier to be appointed and a new Cabinet to be formed.
