CYBERJAYA (Bernama): The British-education King Henry VIII (KH 8) College based here is offering ten scholarships this year, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.
KH 8 College board of governors chair, Datuk Benny Hoe Tze Fook, said each is worth more than RM300,000 and will be awarded to eligible students from developing Commonwealth nations.
He said applications for the KH 8 College Commonwealth Scholarship Awards will open in June for the September 2020 intake.
"There will be six scholarships for academic and two each for the music and arts category, as well as sports category, starting with those entering the sixth form in the new term, ” he said in his welcoming speech at the launch of the scholarship programme on Tuesday (Feb 11).
Commonwealth secretary-general, Baroness Patricia Scotland, who launched the inaugural Commonwealth Scholarship Awards, and Christ College Brecon chair of governors, Sir Paul Silk, were also present.
The school’s new auditorium - The Baroness Scotland Theatre - was also formally opened by its namesake.
KH 8 College is the sister school of one of the UK’s oldest schools, Christ College in Brecon, Wales, which was founded by King Henry VIII in 1541.
Hoe said students wishing to apply for the scholarship will go through a stringent selection process to ensure the most deserving students enjoy this special privilege.
"We may open the scholarship to other year groups later, but to begin with, it will be for the sixth form students. Their full boarding fees will be paid for, together with all tuition and activity-related fees, ” he said. - Bernama
