MTUC waiting for news from ROS

KLANG: The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) has tendered all the required documents to the authorities to back its case following a temporary suspension by the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

“We are now waiting to hear from ROS,” said its president Datuk Abdul Halim Mansor.

“So far, there is no news but we hope things will be ironed out soon,’’ he said.

MTUC was hit with the suspension when ROS opened an investigation into complaints of it not being properly managed.

Subsequently, ROS issued a notice to MTUC on Dec 18, giving it 30 days from that date to respond.

When contacted, Abdul Halim said MTUC would hold its triennial delegates conference and leadership election once the suspension is lifted.

“Whatever that needs to be done will be done immediately,’’ he said.

MTUC secretary-general J. Solomon said he was informed that the delay of uplifting the suspension was due to ROS’ procedural measures.

“If it’s procedural, let them do the job and get back to us,” said Solomon.

Former MTUC acting president Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid, who is Kapar MP, told The Star recently that he would be contesting for the president’s post when the leadership election is held.

Abdullah Sani, who is with the National Union of Commercial Workers, said he had taken it upon himself to right the wrongs that had resulted in MTUC’s suspension.

“I have been a part of MTUC since 1984 and I cannot accept what has happened to the congress,” he said.
