Kimanis by-election: Warisan's Karim Bujang gets second chance to contest for seat

MEMBAKUT: Parti Warisan Sabah has named Datuk Karim Bujang as its candidate for the Kimanis by-election, paving way for a second chance for him to contest the parliamentary seat.

Chief Minister and Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal announced this when launching the party's Kimanis by-election machinery on Thursday (Jan 2) at the Membakut open hall here.

Karim was Warisan's candidate for the constituency in the 14th General Election.

He filed the election petition against Datuk Seri Anifah Aman win who obtained a slim majority of 156, and the court ruled the seat's GE14 outcome as null and void, leading to the by-election.

Anifah, who has contested under Barisan Nasional ticket but has since left the coalition, has confirmed he will not be contesting in the by-election but will back Barisan's candidate.

Sabah Umno on Wednesday (Jan 1) announced former Bongawan assemblyman Datuk Mohamad Alamin as its candidate.

He is the Kimanis Umno division chief.
