RoS invites MTUC for Thursday meeting

PETALING JAYA: The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has invited the currently suspended Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) for a meeting on Thursday, says MTUC president Datuk Abdul Halim Mansor.

He said this was in line with the request by MTUC to meet RoS to settle the issue of the possible deregistration, which was announced by the latter on Dec 20.

However, Abdul Halim said MTUC had yet to receive the Dec 18 notice on suspension of the federation which RoS claimed had been sent to MTUC after rescinding an earlier notice which went viral.

“I was informed the meeting planned for Dec 24 was postponed.

“This letter for the meeting on Dec 26 showed that RoS had responded to our request to meet them to discuss the alleged suspension. But we have yet to receive the notice of suspension,” he said.

On Dec 20, RoS said it had opened an investigation paper into complaints of mismanagement against the federation of trade unions representing half a million workers in Malaysia.

It then said that it had issued MTUC a notice on Dec 18, under Section 13(2) of Societies Act 1966, which is the notice before the registration of a society is annulled.

MTUC was given 30 days from the date of the notice to respond as to why it should not be annulled.

MTUC Secretary-General J. Solomon maintained that MTUC received no such notice dated Dec 18 as of press time.
