Ipoh couple charged with human trafficking

IPOH: A housewife and her husband have been charged with human trafficking involving an Indonesian woman.

J. Jayamalar, 36, was charged under Section 13 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling Migrants Act for trafficking the 32-year-old victim for labour by using force while her husband V. Chandru, 35, was charged with Section 12 of the Act for exploiting the victim for labour.

Jayamalar was also slapped with a second charge under Section 325 of the Penal Code for causing hurt to the victim.

Both claimed trial after being read their separate charges before Sessions Court judge Azman Abu Hassan.

According to the charge sheets, the offences were said to have been committed at a house in Taman Kledang Emas here between 2011 and October 2019.

Judge Azman set bail at RM10,000 each for both accused.

He also set Jan 20,2020, for mention, case management and submission of documents.

Deputy Prosecutor Fadhli Ab Wahab prosecuted while the accused was represented by J. Matthews.
