Zahid paid over RM72k to insure 20 cars and motorcycles, court told

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi paid a total of RM72,209.57 inclusive of commission for 39 vehicle insurance policies for 20 cars and motorcycles in 2015, the High Court heard.

Allianz General Insurance branch manager Fang Suat Lim, 49, testified that the policies were for 20 vehicles - 10 luxury cars, eight high-powered motorcycles, a car and a motorcycle.

Among them were BMW X5, Mini Cooper S, Mercedes Benz CLS350, BMW 320i (A), Toyota Land Cruiser and superbike BMW R1200 GS.

The policies - valued between RM113.80 and RM8,552.52 - were registered under Zahid, his wife Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis and their children Nurulizwani, Datuk Nurulhidayah and Ahmad Shafiq Hazieq.

The four types of policies Zahid took were private car policy, motorcycle policy, enhanced road warrior policy and the bike warrior policy.

“For a Chrysler Jeep Wrangler, Zahid bought two types of policies totalling RM4,925.15.

“For a Toyota Vellfire, Zahid also bought two types of policies totalling RM6,368.55,” she said at Zahid’s trial involving 47 charges of misappropriation involving millions of ringgit belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi here on Thursday (Dec 5).

The amount of payment made by Zahid for the policies between January 2015 and November 2015 was RM65,070.04 and this is excluding a 10% commission.

According to Fang, the value of the insurance policies and the amount reflected in the Allianz official receipt differ because there is a deduction of commission for payments made through Allianz insurance agents.

"Insurance agents would receive 10% commission from the premium amount of insurance paid by customers," she said.

Zahid is facing a total of 47 charges, 12 of which are for CBT, eight for bribery and 27 for money laundering involving tens of millions of ringgit belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi.

The trial continues before judge Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah on Monday (Dec 9).
