KUALA LUMPUR: Civil society groups and some MPs have renewed their call for a total repeal of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) instead of the government's proposal to amend the Act to make it less "draconian".
The groups said since almost all Sosma provisions were considered draconian, it was better to do away with the entire Act instead of reviewing provisions, such as the 28-day detention period and detainees' access to legal assistance.
