PONTIAN: Schools are encouraged to hold more cultural interaction programmes for their students to create better understanding among the multiracial community in Malaysia.
Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said the ministry would support such programmes held in all schools throughout the nation.
“I am surprised to see that SJKC Tah Tong has its own kompang group, which consists of their own students. I applaud their step in promoting cultural understanding.“Nowadays, we are able to see Malay or Indian students being part of a lion dance troupe. With a Chinese school creating its own kompang group, it is good for the children, ” he said.
Maszlee, who is also Simpang Renggam MP, said this after a working visit to the school in Jalan Alsagoff here yesterday.
The ministry, he added, hoped to see more schools promoting cultural interaction programmes in the near future.
“Programmes such as this do not only create better understanding but also help to promote and preserve our rich culture for the future generation, ” he said.
Maszlee said the ministry would also be promoting the concept of the best practices for students, which would touch on instilling discipline and moral values.
