PARLIAMENTARY proceedings were temporarily halted after Nibong Tebal MP Datuk Mansor Othman collapsed while delivering his speech for Budget 2020 in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.Mansor was halfway through
his speech when he started slurring and then suddenly slumped over, prompting lawmakers next to him to help out.
Subang MP Wong Chen held Mansor to keep him from falling over while Ledang MP Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, who was seated behind Mansor, also rushed forward to help.
Dr Kelvin Yii (PH-Bandar Kuching), who is a doctor, went up to Mansor and helped him lie down.Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Nga Kor Ming then asked for someone to call a doctor from the Parliament clinic, before adjourning the House for five minutes.
Mansor was then taken out of the Dewan Rakyat in a wheelchair to the Parliament’s clinic, after which proceedings resumed.
Nga expressed hope that Mansor would back on his feet soon and also advised lawmakers to take care of their health.
“We must take care of our health, it is our responsibility.
“This is not the first incident as YB Sepang (Mohamed Hanipa Maidin) also collapsed before (in 2016).”
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who met reporters at the Parliament lobby shortly after, said Mansor’s blood pressure may have played a role in the incident.
“Maybe his blood pressure went down and he blacked out, ” she said, adding that Mansor had regained consciousness shortly after she attended to him in the House.
“I asked him if he knew who I was and he said yes.
“His blood pressure and sugar level went up and he will go for a full check-up at the hospital, ” she added.
According to Dr Yii, the main suspect now is low blood pressure.
“Although he is alert and conscious now, he still has to go to the hospital for a further check-up his heart and other necessary test.
“He (Mansor) is alert now, aware and strong, ” he added.
In a Facebook post, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he hoped that Mansor would recover soon.
“I pray that he will recover quickly and can resume his duties, ” he wrote.
