Kuala Pilah school wins inaugural girls’ football tourney

A FEMALE football team from SJK (T) Kuala Pilah has emerged the winner for the first-ever state-level football tournament for girls in Tamil schools, reported Makkal Osai. This was the first time that a category for girls was held in the tournament, which entered its 13th edition this year.

The team beat the Bandar Seri Sendayan Tamil school with a score of 4-1 in the final to win the tournament organised by the Interact Recreation Club (IRC).

The school’s Primary Five pupil Shalini Selvaraju, who scored four goals in the final game, was also named the best female player of the tournament.

Other female teams who took part were from SJK (T) Port Dickson, SJK (T) Nilai, SJK (T) Convent Seremban and SJK (T) Bandar Springhill.State exco member and Nilai assemblyman Arul Kumar Jambunathan praised the participating teams for making history and encouraged other schools in Negri Sembilan to take part in the future. > The daily also reported that five local Tamil poets were honoured for their contributions to local literature during the Nallarkiniyan Marabu Kavithai Competition 2019 in Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI). Veteran poets Ponmudi G. Subramaniam, P.K. Malaiyarasa, Thirukkural Maniyam, Sanggu Shanmugam and V. Vivekananthan were honoured with special recognition awards in the annual event organised by the Valartamil Mandram society of UPSI.

During this year’s event, seven students carried a palanquin containing poems by the local authors before reciting these to the audience.
