Muhyiddin: Past defeats will guide us in Tanjung Piai by-election

PUTRAJAYA: Pakatan Harapan will use its past election defeats as a lesson, as it aims to defend the Tanjung Piai seat in the upcoming Nov 16 by-election, says Pakatan deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said the ruling coalition would strive to ensure it ran a more effective campaign to woo voters.

“We take into account our experience in the past, not only in the Semenyih by-election, but also all the other seats we have contested before.

“We have received plenty of feedback and conducted post-mortems following our previous election defeats.

“For Tanjung Piai, we will set up a more efficient strategy and a campaign that is more wholesome, and one that reaches out to every single voter.

“Whatever issues that have been discussed in the public sphere, we will try our best to explain them, especially those on Pakatan’s policies, ” said Muhyiddin, who is also Home Minister, at a press conference after the launch of the Security and Public Order Policy on Thursday (Oct 3).

The Bersatu president also said the seat was most likely to be contested by his party, based on the 14th General Election seating arrangements.

“Based on Pakatan’s policy, the seat should remain Bersatu’s seat, as it was contested by the late incumbent Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik, ” said Muhyiddin.

He added that he will be chairing a Pakatan election committee meeting in Muar to discuss the by-election strategy.
