Bring back GST in Budget 2020, govt urged

MIER chairman Tan Sri Kamal Salih

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER) has urged the government to re-introduce the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the 2020 Budget, but at a lower rate of three per cent.

Describing the GST as a tax regime that is fair to all walks of life, MIER chairman Tan Sri Kamal Salih said the GST was the system that kept the government afloat when the crude oil price declined to below US$36 per barrel in 2015.
