PETALING JAYA: The death of veteran actor and comedian A.R. Badul's son, Mejar Mohd Zahir Armaya (pic), has been classified as an accident during training.

Mejar Mohd Zahir died during an Army training exercise in conjunction with the launch of the Malaysian Infantry Fifth Division and 13th Brigade at Kem Lok Kawi on Sept 4.

In a statement on Thursday (Sept 26), the Army said its Investigations Board has determined it to be an isolated incident, and an accident during training.

"The board members also found the gear and equipment used during the training exercise were in good condition.

"The Army will take appropriate disciplinary action against the individual involved, while the current standard operating procedure would be updated if necessary," it said in a statement Thursday (Sept 26).

It added that training to strengthen the Army would be continued, specifically to increase the confidence of its personnel on the current gear and equipment used.

On the welfare aspect of Mejar Mohd Zahir's family, the Army said the deceased had been recommended for a posthumous promotion to the rank of Leftenan Kolonel by the 578th Army Council (MAT 578) that convened on Sept 17.

The promotion is subject to the approval of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

"The Army has given appropriate aid to Mejar Mohd Zahir's widow, Nour Shafinar Harun and his family.

"They will continue to be given aid and benefits accordingly, based on eligibility that has been determined by the Army," it stated.
