SHAH ALAM: Police are investigating the motive behind an attack that left an elderly woman dead and her grandson seriously injured after five masked men stormed their house in Kampung Tebuk Pulai, Sabak Bernam.

In the 4am incident yesterday, P. Runkanaikey, 78, was killed on the spot while her grandson, N. Silamparasan, 22, was rushed to hospital with severe injuries.

Sabak Bernam district deputy police chief DSP Lim Chee Khoon said the grandson, a coconut seller, was alerted to the suspects’ presence outside the house.

But before he could inform his grandmother, the men broke into the house and slashed his grandmother with machetes, added DSP Lim.

“The grandson hid under a bed but when he tried to escape later, he was set on, slashed and seriously injured on several parts of the body.

“He’s now being treated at the Sabak Bernam Hospital, ” he said in a statement here yesterday.

Lim said the suspects fled in a grey car without taking anything.

“Police are investigating the motive of the incident and are now looking for the suspects, ” he added. — Bernama
