Zuraida: No reason to arrest Azmin if there is no wrongdoing

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Azmin Ali will not be arrested if no wrongdoing was committed, says Zuraida Kamaruddin (pic).

The PKR vice president Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) will decide if this is so, and added that any authority to arrest Azmin lies with the police.

"It is up to the police. Arresting people is their job. But if nothing wrong is done (by Azmin), why must he be arrested?" she said on Wednesday (July 24).

Zuraida - who is known to be a strong ally of the PKR deputy president - was asked about Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal's challenge for the police to arrest Azmin over the sex video scandal.

Farhash made the call after he was released from remand on Tuesday (July 23).

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador had said it was possible that Azmin could be arrested.

However, any decision to do so would be the prerogative of the AGC after the submission of investigation papers by his officers.

On whether disciplinary action should be taken against Farhash, Zuraida responded: "Give him some time to clear his mind. He was held under remand and did not have access to information.

"I sympathise with him for having such assumptions. I hope that after he has been updated, he will give better and more rational feedback," she said.

On Tuesday, Farhash and former Santubong PKR youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz and another man were released at the Dang Wangi police district headquarters after being remanded since July 16 over the sex video scandal.
