Forest fires flare up again in parts of Sarawak

MIRI: Two places in Roban district and Samarahan district in southern Sarawak are seeing wildfires flaring up again.

In Roban, it was reported that Scheme Rumbia Agriculture Farm, measuring 210ha, was seeing wildfires within the estate area.

Some 70ha of the place had been razed since the fires started on Tuesday (July 16), said Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department in its updates.

In Samarahan, Kpg Maranek residents alerted Bomba units to a forest fire that had been spotted in more than a hectare of land.

That fire was first spotted on Tuesday evening (July 16).

Parts of Sarawak are seeing very hot weather again.

The last major forest fire woes in the state were in Miri last month during the May-June period which saw the place choked in haze as thousands of hectares of plantation burned.
