Perak exco member being probed for rape

KUALA LUMPUR: An investigation has been launched into allegations of a Perak executive council member sexually assaulting an Indonesian maid.

Bukit Aman Sexual, Women and Child Investigations Division (D11) principal assistant director Asst Comm Choo Lily confirmed the case.

“Yes, a report has been made. We are investigating the matter,” she said. It is believed the report was made by the alleged victim on Monday. The personal aide of the assemblyman in question issued a statement yesterday to say that the latter had strongly denied the allegations.

“He maintains that he has not committed the act as alleged and will leave it to the police to carry out their investigation.

“He has promised to cooperate fully with the police and trusts that the police will be professional and transparent in their investigation,” the statement added.

Earlier, in a statement, Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming deemed the allegation serious and said the party would leave it to the police to investigate.

“The party is of the view that no one is above the law and as such will leave it to the authorities to conduct a full investigation,” said Nga, who is also party deputy secretary-general.

“Appropriate action will be taken according to the outcome of the investigation,” he said.

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu asked for the police to be given space to probe.

He said any decision on the state exco member would only be made after the police completed their investigation.
