IPOH: The Perak state executive councillor alleged to have sexually assaulted his Indonesian maid has been arrested.
Perak Police chief Comm Datuk Razarudin Husain confirmed that the assemblyman was picked up on Tuesday (July 9) to assist in investigations.
“This is to ensure a fair police probe is carried out, and thus we have arrested the suspect,” he said in a statement.
Comm Razarudin is expected to issue a press statement on the case later in the day.
Meanwhile, the accused issued a press statement on Tuesday denying the allegation and said that he was innocent.
He said he would give his full cooperation to the police in their investigation.
It is believed that the report against the executive councillor was made on Monday (July 8) by the maid.
The swearing-in ceremony for Perak executive council members that was set to take place at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar on Thursday (July 11) has now been called off.
The Perak Sultan's office issued a short notice on the matter to all press groups via the state Information Department here on Tuesday (July 9).
It, however, did not mention the reason for the postponement, only noting that a new date for the ceremony would be determined later.
