I support Zahid as Umno president, says Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is the right leader for Umno because he has the necessary experience and knowledge to lead the party, says former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

“Umno needs leaders with lots of experience and credibility.

"Zahid, in terms of his competence, is able to strengthen Umno. That is why I’m supporting Zahid to return serving as party president,” he said.

Najib was speaking to reporters at the parliament lobby on Thursday (July 4).

He was responding to PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who said on Wednesday (July 3) that Ahmad Zahid’s return as Umno president showed that the party was not on steady ground.

Last Sunday (June 30), Ahmad Zahid returned as Umno President after going on garden leave in December.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the former Home Minister, is currently facing 87 graft charges.
