KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is set to host the Asian National Museums Association (ANMA) conference later this year.

It will see officials of national museums from Asian countries meeting and coming up with a joint resolution for the first time.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi, who announced this, said the seventh ANMA Executive Meeting and Conference would be held from Oct 29 to 31.

“Muzium Negara will host this conference that will see national museums from Asian countries holding meetings and drafting a resolution for the first time in Malaysia.“I’m confident that the preparations and ongoing promotion will enhance the visibility of museums,” he said after launching the Alharamain International Exhibition 2019 at Muzium Negara here yesterday.

Museums Department director-general Datuk Kamarul Baharin A. Kasim said so far, 19 out of the 23 member countries in ANMA, including Thailand, Singapore and Kazakhstan, had confirmed their participation in the conference.

The ANMA conference is a platform for Asian countries to exchange views and discuss the latest developments surrounding museums, new findings, archaeological evidences and exhibition techniques.

“The significance of Malaysia hosting the ANMA is that it shows our country is capable of playing host to this large-scale conference.

“It will also attract participating countries to promote Malaysia as we will be bringing them to visit historical places here, such as Melaka,” he said, adding that Malaysia was also sponsoring the participation of countries like Mongolia and Timor-Leste.
