KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has confirmed that the son of Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu (pic) was charged with consumption of drugs last Thursday (June 13).
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department acting director Kamarulzaman Mamat said that 31-year-old Ahmad Saiful Islam claimed trial to charges under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for administering drugs.
Anyone convicted is liable to a RM5,000 fine or a maximum two-year jail term.
“The DPP charged him on June 13 and released him on a RM3,000 bail. The trial is set to go on in July," he said.
Saiful was arrested early this year, after testing positive for marijuana following a raid by police on entertainment outlets in Kuala Lumpur.
Immediately after the arrest, Mohamad confirmed that his son was involved and said all were equal in the eyes of the law.
