Anwar says he disagrees with Farhash over Azmin's position

PETALING JAYA: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says that he disagreed with his political secretary's view over Datuk Seri Azmin Ali's position as the party's deputy president.

"I do not agree with the statement made by Farhash Wafa on the video issue and the position of Azmin as the deputy president," he said in a statement Tuesday (June 18).

Anwar was responding to statement by his political secretary Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak who asked Azmin to quit if the evidence over the sex video clips is overwhelmingly against him.

Farhash had reportedly called for Azmin's resignation, adding that “this whole fiasco is turning into a circus, and they are implicating everyone, including me.”

“It is time those responsible own up and put the matter to rest, so we can move on to more pressing issues,” added Farhash in an interview with an English daily.

Anwar also reminded party members to use the proper channel when making statements.

"Again, I would like to urge the leadership and party members to use the proper channel and leave the duty to investigate the issue to the police," added Anwar.

In the past week, clips of a sex video involving two men have gone viral, followed by a confession by Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz, who is also Santubong PKR Youth chief, that he was one of the two men in the videos.

He claimed that the other person was Azmin, who is also Economic Affairs Minister.

Azmin had categorically denied the allegation, saying it was made to tarnish his reputation and destroy his political career.

Haziq is being investigated under four charges, including Section 377B of the Penal Code for carnal intercourse against the order of nature and Section 292 for distributing obscene materials.
