China set to eradicate poverty by 2020

New look: A ‘revitalised’ modern village in Hunan Province – Furong Community in Nanshan Village.

BEFORE 2017, Lim Yi-Teik and her husband were poor farmers who survived on raising pigs in a small enclosure next to their wooden house in Kaihui Village – about 30km to the north of Changsha, the capital of China’s Hunan Province.

But today, both are operating a modest five-room homestay converted from their house and pigsty. They are earning a monthly income of 2,000-10,000 yuan (RM1,203-RM6,015) a month in this picturesque village that has been transformed into a popular weekend getaway for urbanites.
