KUALA LUMPUR: The PKR disciplinary board needs to find out how those who circulated the sex videos gained access to the phone numbers of party officers, said Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

He said that the videos were first spread using the WhatsApp messaging app in new groups created by the sender.

"These WhatsApp groups contained all the contact numbers of branch leaders and lower-ranked branch level office bearers.

"I don't have access to this information. The question is who provided this information to create these WhatsApp groups. There are groups for Sabah, Sarawak and the peninsula," said Azmin.

"The party should be cleaned up. The disciplinary board must decide what is best for the party. If we want to ensure the party is relevant and acceptable to the public, something needs to be done," said Azmin, who is also Economic Affairs Minister.

Azmin also said party leaders should take note of the PKR members who were seen with Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz when he was released on Saturday (June 15).

"This is alarming. The leadership must take a bold decision and investigate," he said after a Hari Raya event in Gombak Setia Sunday (June 16).

Haziq, who claimed that he and Azmin were the two seen in the viral sex videos, was arrested at KLIA on June 14, as he was about to take a flight to Manila.

He was released the next day and several PKR members were seen with him upon his release.

Azmin has denied he is the one in the video, saying that this was a plot to end his political career.

Various people, including Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and PKR leaders, including party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, had denounced the sex video as "gutter politics".
