Haziq Abdullah arrested at KLIA, stopped from catching flight to Manila (updated)

PETALING JAYA: Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz, who claimed he is one of the two individuals featured in a viral sex video, has been arrested while trying to leave the country.

In a statement late Friday (June 14), Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed, confirmed Haziq was detained in the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 6pm.

"The suspect was at the international departure hall when he was arrested. Based on his flight ticket, the suspect was headed to Manila," he said.

Comm Huzir said the suspect was being investigated under Section 292 (sale or otherwise of obscene material), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace) and 377B (committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature) of the Penal Code as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Improper use of network facilities).

When contacted earlier Friday, his lawyer, Ramesh Sivakumar, said he did not know where his client was.

"The police called me saying that Haziq was in KLIA, but when I arrived there around 7.20pm, they told me that Bukit Aman had taken him in.

"Now I am waiting for more updates from the police. I also am not sure where he has been taken," he said when contacted.

On Wednesday (June 12), Haziq posted a video on Facebook, admitting that he was one of the men in a sex video which went viral on Tuesday (June 11). He implicated Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali as the other person in the video.

Azmin denied that he was the person in the video clip and said that this was a plot to plot to destroy his political career.

A second video clip, which appears to show the same pair from the earlier viral video, surfaced on Wednesday night.
